1 Shroud and Mounting The Norotos Universal Shroud-Light is an integrated Multi-Light & Power System that mounts directly to the front of the helmet thereby providing the user with direct center focused lighting while eliminating the need for auxiliary side mounted lights reducing weight, encumbrances, snag hazards, and additional unnecessary equipment. The Universal Shroud-Light is an enhanced version of the Norotos Universal Shroud that is compatible with nearly all helmets and renown for reliable stability (ref. NSNs [Tan] and [Black]). Evolving from the Anti-Wobble fortitude of Norotos Universal Shroud, the Universal Shroud- Light embeds a source of light into this already reliably robust platform. Enhancing previous conceptions of night vision shroud performance capacity, two banks of centrally focused lights consist of four white LEDs and two LEDs of each blue and red. This configuration provides an optically centered light pattern from the front of the helmet eliminating the uncomfortable neck positions and continual beam adjustment of side mounted lighting systems. Powered with a single AA battery integrated into its lower portion, the Universal Shroud-Light provides approximately 4 hours of white light at maximum brightness, followed by an automated step-down period providing a total of 14-plus hours field use. User may adjust light intensity from 4% to 100%. Low intensity significantly extends battery life and minimizes the potential for light detection by hostiles. Avoiding break or snag potential, 2 low-profile contoured buttons located above lights provide controls for both light intensity, color selection, and safe on/off. User may quickly program which color light initially activates, always at the discrete low setting. Intelligent controllers

2 warn the user via discrete flash alerts and light intensity reduction as battery exhaustion proceeds. While red lights will not degrade users night vision and minimize possible detection, blue lights ensure clear fluid identification, ideal for combat medics. The INVG Hyper Night Vision Goggle Mount is a precision-machined, highly adjustable, modular mount. It provides an extremely stable platform for attaching almost every type of night vision goggle used by the Department of Defense and Law Enforcement communities. The INVG Hyper retains all of the popular features from the legacy INVG mount while adding a breakaway mode for to increase operator safety and lower the chance of gear damage as well as a modular interface system. The INVG Hyper features a single tri-lobe mount arm that pivots on its own axis. The single arm prevents binding under pressure, tension, and field abuse and represents the strongest mount arm in the field. The INVG Hyper can rotate on its own axis, allowing a monocular to easily pivot from eye to the other. But, the greatest benefit is that goggles can be stowed in a lower profile than with traditional mounts. When the user flips the goggle up into the stow position, it can then be rotated again back towards the helmet; preventing a large night vision protrusion from the helmet that can cause snag hazards and accidental damage to the goggle. The INVG Hyper uses a force-to-overcome stow mechanism so it can be easily and quickly flipped up and down. The INVG Hyper utilizes a field-changeable interface system that allows operators to switch between the standard bayonet horn and dovetail interface. It comes standard with the Dovetail Interface. Horn Interface is sold separately. The horn interface is compatible with the AN/PVS- 7B, AN/PVS-7D, AN/PVS-14. The dovetail interface is compatible with the AN/PVS-15, AN/PVS- 18, AN/PVS-31, BNVD-G, TNV/Sentinel. Interfaces are easily swapped without tools by manipulating a spring-loaded capture pin and sliding them off the adjustment rail. Vertical adjustment is accomplished with ease by rotating a locking lever on top of the mount before

3 sliding the mount up and down the vertical rail. When the desired height is found, the lever is locked down. This is a nice improvement over the legacy system which featured a slow worm dial. It is also easier to actuate with gloves. The breakaway feature is what really distinguishes the Hyper Series from the legacy mounts. A shuttle switch allows the user to set the mount to either locked or breakaway mode. When locked, the mount will not will come loose from the shroud without pushing the release button. In breakaway mode, the mount will release from the shroud under a user-specified amount of force. This is extremely useful during activities where the NVG and mount can become snagged on other gear or surfaces. Smacking a stowed NVG on a surface during activities such as fast rope and vehicle dismount can snap the user s head back and severely injure his/her neck. It can also cause damage to the mounted NVG. But, if the mount has a breakaway system like the Hyper Series, it will pop loose from the shroud. Assuming the goggle is dummy-corded to the helmet, the user will have retain it while saving his neck. The Hyper Series Break-Away mode is user-adjustable. 4 The AN/PVS-31 Binocular Night Vision Device (BNVD) is compact, lightweight, dual tube Gen3 goggle to replace the legacy AN/PVS-15 in the USSOCOM inventory. In a sea of dual tube night vision goggles, the AN/PVS-31 is the smallest and lightest unit by far. Weighing in at just under one pound, this system is almost as light as a monocular, yet packs in the same feature set (and then some) of much heavier devices. Working directly with U.S. Special Operations Forces input, the AN/PVS-31 was designed to increase system resolution, significantly reduce head borne weight, improve system of center of gravity, provide additional operational utility, and improve overall operator situational awareness. The AN/PVS-31 BNVD utilizes L-3 s latest MX Gen3 image intensifier tubes, providing unmatched clarity in resolution. These tubes are variable gain-capable, allowing operators to adjust the brightness of their image as situations on the ground dictate. Gain adjustment is quick and easy; done by simply rotating the power button. This centrally-located control activates and deactivates the goggle when pressed and held in for two seconds, making all controls easy to locate and operate without being able to see them and while wearing gloves. There is no integral infrared illuminator in the AN/PVS-31 BNVD. This feature was not desired by most operators due to its limited distance functionality and added weight/size. The AN/PVS-31 runs off a single on-board AA battery. The AN/PVS-31 BNVD has independently pivoting tube housings that allow the operator to run the goggle in a binocular or monocular configuration. Using two tubes at once allows the eyes to create depth perception and increases the ease in maneuvering terrain and obstacles as well as operating devices such as control panels and door knobs. However, monocular configurations allow for ease in transitioning between various lighting conditions that often occur on the battlefield and cause operators to switch between night vision weapon-mounted white lights. The AN/PVS-31 can be configured to adapt to various situations, giving the user the best of both worlds. Another benefit to the pivoting tube housings is the ability to mount the flatten the goggle against the front helmet surface when stowed. Goggles are often worn throughout the duration of a mission, even in daylight hours, because operators may find themselves in a dark environment. NVG s are often left in the stowed position until needed so

5 they can be instantly accessed. But, this causes a snag hazard since the goggles can easily bang into objects while flipped up. The ability to pivot the tube housings against the helmet surface creates an overall lower profile, increasing operator safety and equipment life. Battery Pack A remote battery pack that mounts behind the helmet for extended use of the AN/PVS-31A Night Vision Goggles. The remote pack allows the goggle to weigh in even less and acts as a counterweight to the entire system. It also features built-in dual infrared strobe lights for ground personnel identification. The strobes can be easily activated by a small protected switch under the battery housing. One thing to note is that the cable connecting the goggle to the remote battery pack will slightly interfere with the right tube s ability to be pivoted up.
